General Information

The Optimist Club of Moore was founded in 1967 and serves the communities of Corunna, Mooretown and Courtright.  It has made significant contributions to youth programs, community events, and the well-being of children. 

Members actively support the community by upholding the Mission, Vision & Purposes of Optimist International. 

Mission, Vision & Purposes of Optimist International 

Mission: By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves. 

Vision: Optimist International will be recognized worldwide as the premier volunteer organization that values all children and helps them develop to their full potential. 

Purposes: To develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed; to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for the law; to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance

Meetings 

Where:  Emergency Services Building at 392 Lyndoch St., Corunna (Hill St. entrance). 

When: General Meeting: 2nd Monday of the Month 7 pm  

 Board Meeting: 4th Monday of the Month 6:30 pm  

General meetings are for fellowship, club updates, event planning, and idea sharing. These meetings may include refreshments, networking activities, and guest speakers.  

Board meetings deal with matters such as fund allocation, event planning, and policy review. All members are encouraged to attend the board meetings to find out more about how the club works. 

Membership 

Membership is open to anyone over 18 who aims to enhance children’s lives and make a positive contribution to the community 

Club Dues 

Members pay dues annually which support various Optimist International programs, provide insurance coverage for the club and its members, fund scholarships, and cover administrative expenses. 

Governance 

The club is governed by a Board of Directors, consisting of a President, Secretary, Treasurer, and six Directors, ensuring adherence to Optimist International’s rules and regulations, and establishing its own Policies and Procedures. 

The club is incorporated and operates in compliance with government corporate regulations to protect its members. 

Learning Opportunities

Optimist Clubs are structured into Regions, Districts, and Zones. The Optimist Club of Moore is part of the Eastern Great Lakes Region, District 45, Zone 6.  Zone 6 includes the Optimist Clubs of Moore, Sombra Township, Lambton Central Petrolia, Oil Springs, Brigden, and Conductive Education 

Zone dinner meetings occur four times a year, rotating between clubs of each zone. These meetings offer valuable insights into other club initiatives and achievements. 

The District hosts 3 quarterly conferences and 1 district convention, and Optimist International holds an annual convention, all accessible to all Optimist members. 

The Optimist Institute:  members have free access to Optimist on line training and reference material on various subjects.
